The question "Where are the snowdens of yesteryear?" was posed by the character Yossarian in Joseph Heller's World War II novel Catch 22. By referring to the character Snowden who died in Yossarian's arms during their first combat mission the question is most likely used ironically to demonstrate the futility of war.
